Early Voting Continues

Starting with the current election, Richardson ISD Trustees will be chosen using a new system.

Only voters living in specific geographic areas of RISD (called board districts) can vote for candidates running in that district.

On this ballot, candidates are running in board districts 2, 4, and 5. Search for your board district by address through Dallas County Elections. Your RISD board district is listed near the bottom of the page.

Early voting has begun and ends Friday Nov. 1.

Please Keep Your Contact Info Current

When inclement weather causes RISD to cancel or delay school, parents and staff are notified by telephone, email and text message.

In order to reach parents, schools must have accurate contact information.

If you have changed your phone number or email address since enrolling your child, please provide updated contact information to the school front office.

Internet Safety — Parent Education

REMINDER: RISD Instructional Technology will host parents of students in all grade levels at the Professional Development Center tonight at 5:30 to 7 p.m. to discuss internet safety.

This is an opportunity for parents to learn about trends in social media, online privacy, using technology at home and at school, and best practices in both places.

RISD Instructional Technology works together with all stakeholders to help students understand how the digital world works, while positively transforming teaching and learning.

The PDC is located at 701 W. Belt Line Road, across from Richardson Heights Elementary School.

2019 Spirit Run is Saturday

The 10th annual RISD Spirit Run is this Saturday at Galatyn Park.

Registration continues, and there’s always the sleep-in option.

The race benefits the Excellence in Education Foundation for Richardson ISD, which supports excellence in teaching and high-achieving students, raises funds for the enrichment and innovations of teaching for all students and reinforces positive relations with the community.

Trustees Approve Land Deal

On October 28, the RISD Board of Trustees voted to authorize district staff to work to finalize a $4.5 million purchase contract for 9.05 acres of available property located at 12351 Abrams Road in Dallas.

The purchase of land to provide flexibility to address future facility construction needs was included in the bond package approved by voters in 2016, and the acquisition supports the district’s current Strategic Plan.

Reminders

Connecting With School

RISD administration and individual schools regularly provide messages to parents of enrolled students with school information, important dates, reminders, and safety information. Parents are strongly encouraged to ensure their child’s school has an up-to-date email address and a working, text-enabled phone number.

Questions?

Your child’s school is the best resource for questions about school schedules and operations.

Parents may also contact the main RISD switchboard at 469–593–0000 or email the district at risd@risd.org.

Volunteering in RISD

A new background check is required every school year for all volunteers at RISD schools.

Parents, grandparents and community members must be cleared prior to volunteering at school activities, so the beginning of the school year is the best time to complete that process.

Learn more about volunteer opportunities at RISD schools and submit information for a background check.
