The Texas high school football playoffs start this Friday night with two RISD teams vying for a state title.

Lake Highlands beat Richardson 63–35 last Friday to secure its spot in the UIL 6A Division II playoffs.

In the bi-district round this Friday, Lake Highlands will play Mansfield Lake Ridge at 7:30 p.m. at Vernon Newsom Stadium in Mansfield. Lake Ridge finished 7–2 and is the ninth-ranked team in The Dallas Morning News’ area 6A rankings.

Jakson Thomson passed for 345 yards with five touchdowns and rushed for 97 yards against RHS. Cristian Longario caught nine balls for 202 yards and four touchdowns for LHHS, which finished in third place in District 8–6A at 6–4. Khamondre Phillips rushed for 113 yards and two touchdowns.

Lake Highlands’ Dreveon Eatmond was the DMN’s defensive player of the week for his game against Richardson. The junior cornerback intercepted two passes, forced a fumble and returned a kickoff 88 yards for a touchdown.

Pearce will play Cedar Hill Friday night at Longhorn Stadium in the southwest corner of Dallas County. Cedar Hill finished 9–1 and is ranked fourth in the DMN area 6A rankings.

Pearce lost to Skyline 28–27 last Friday as a two-point conversion pass fell incomplete with less than two minutes remaining. Pearce finished the season at 6–4, 4–3 in District 8–6A.
