(August 13 — Richardson, TX) Richardson ISD school board trustee Katie Patterson announced at last evening’s regular board meeting that she is resigning from the board, effective August 16.
Patterson, who has previously announced her intention not to run for another term when her current term expires in November, is departing board service early because her family is moving out of RISD boundaries, which will make her ineligible to serve.
“The time I’ve spent in this role has allowed me to gain a greater awareness of the many facets of public education, develop lasting friendships and, most importantly, be part of a transformational change that will continue to have a positive, lasting impact on tens of thousands of RISD students,” said Patterson. “I look forward to proudly watching as our Board continues to work towards making RISD a place where all are able to connect, learn, grow and succeed.”
“Katie Patterson has been a tireless advocate for all students during her tenure on the Board,” said RISD Superintendent Dr. Jeannie Stone. “We greatly appreciate her passion for Richardson ISD and public education, and thank her for her service to our children and community.”
Patterson has served on the RISD Board since her election in 2016. The RISD Board of Trustees is in the process of transitioning into a new system of electing trustees, and three seats, including Patterson’s, have been placed before voters in the November 5 general election. RISD Trustees voted unanimously to accept Patterson’s resignation, and the seat will remain vacant until voters elect a new trustee in November.
