Road cleaning crews will begin street sweeping Tuesday to start cleaning up all the sand dropped last week to treat roads for severe winter weather.

Cleanup crews will focus first on major arterials, like US 75 and intersections at major cross streets. Afterwards they will work their way into neighborhoods where sand was also dropped on bridges and intersections.

The street sweeping is expected to take several weeks, and possibly a month, dependent on weather and availability of trucks. The City has one street sweeping vehicle but contracts an outside company to help with citywide cleaning after winter weather events. The City’s contractor also works with other area cities, which may slow down how quickly sand can be swept away.

Trucks will be out with drivers working multiple shifts to sweep 20 hours a day until the work is done.
