Richardson ISD trustee and board president Justin Bono announced via a Jan. 10 statement that he will not seek reelection in May.

Bono joined the board in 2014, according to the RISD website. He currently represents At-Large Place 6, which is elected by voters districtwide rather than by residents of a specific area.

The decision to vacate his seat will allow Bono to dedicate more time to his business and family, according to the statement.

“The combination of these two needs left me in a place where I didn’t feel like I could give 100% to this role going forward and should open up the space to someone who can,” Bono said.

Bono said he is proud of the progress the board has made and that he is confident it will continue to make positive changes, according to his statement.

“Our district is in a really strong position and has an outstanding leadership team,” Bono said. “I’m only a part of the team that got us to this point but am proud to be able to step aside with the district in this position.”

Fellow trustee Kristin Kuhne’s Single Member District 3 seat will also appear on the May ballot. Kunhe announced in March she would not seek reelection.

Candidates can begin filing applications to run for either seat on Jan. 15. Early voting is from April 20-28. Election day is May 2.
