Girl Scout cookies go on sale next week, and the organization is unveiling a new addition this season.

The Girl Scout Cookie Program began in 1917 and is the largest fundraiser for girls in the U.S., according to a press release from the organization. The 2020 season begins Jan. 17 and continues through March 1.

This year, Lemon-Ups, a crispy lemon cookie that includes baked-on inspirational messages, will join the cookie line-up.

The cost of Girl Scout cookies is increasing this year by $1, bringing the price of a box of general cookies to $5 and a specialty cookie box to $6. All proceeds benefit the Girl Scouts of Northeast Texas programs, which serves more than 25,000 girls and 12,000 adult volunteers across 32 counties.

Girl Scouts in North Texas benefit from programs that focus on life and business skills, STEM entrepreneurship and travel opportunities. The price increase will also help fund improvements at camp properties, technology expansions and the enhancement of volunteer activities.

Cookies can be purchased by visiting the Girl Scouts’ website and entering a ZIP code.
