Feed Children Everywhere effort coming on Sept. 9
Event hopes to yield 100,000 bagged meals
The Richardson Interfaith Alliance, in partnership with the Richardson Chamber, is hoping to prepare 100,000 meals to distribute in the community. We need your help to make it happen.
On Sunday, Sept. 9, a Feeding Children Everywhere meal bagging event will be from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Richardson Civic Center. Individuals from local houses of worship, corporate entities, non-profit organizations and neighborhoods are needed to make a local impact on hunger.
“Last year, my kids and I participated in this event for the first time,” said Amy Taylor, chamber ambassador. “Each of us, even my 7- and 10-year-olds, helped put together bags of food for those that are in need. It really showed in a tangible way how big the need is in this community and how each of us can make a difference.
“People of all walks of life worked together towards a common goal, and we all had a blast doing it! The only negative was that we had only signed up for an hour. This year, we are signed up to participate for two hours!” Amy is director of volunteer services at Methodist Richardson Medical Center.
“Network is extremely grateful to both participate in the event as volunteers packaging meals and also to be on the receiving end of a large percentage of what is packed that day," said Cindy Shafer, chief executive officer of the Network of Community Ministries. "To see the community come together to package meals that we know will actually go to feed children and families right in Richardson is a huge blessing! Neighbors shopping in our food pantry love to have these meals as staples that they know they can easily prepare that will make their whole family happy. We look forward each year to restocking our shelves with this welcome meal staple."
On Sept. 9, join us in this act of service in honor of those dedicated men and women who work tirelessly to assure our safety and well-being each and every day. First responders and the military will be recognized at the beginning of the event.
