The elections department, located at 1520 Round Table Drive, Dallas, was recognized as a hard-to-reach spot via transit after its recent relocation. DART began working with the election department to make the location more accessible when the legal battle over the number of drop off locations for ballots by mail began, DART President and Executive Director Gary Thomas said at an Oct. 6 DART meeting.
Voters can hand-deliver their ballot in person any time as long as the ballot is received before or on Election Day, as allowed by an emergency order by Gov. Greg Abbott. The Dallas County Elections Department is accepting ballots from 7 a.m.-7 p.m. Mondays-Saturdays during early voting, which ends Oct. 30, on Sundays from 1-6 p.m. until the end of early voting and Nov. 2 and Election Day on Nov. 3 from 7 a.m.-7 p.m.
The new shuttle service runs on weekdays every 30 minutes during early voting and on Election Day. To reach the shuttle, voters can ride the Green or Orange line to either Southwestern Medical District/Parkland Station or Burbank Station and transfer to bus route 525. Voters can then travel to the Regal Row at Stemmons Freeway DART bus stop near the Wyndham Hotel to transfer to a special taxi-style van to complete their trip to the Round Table Drive election facility, per a release from DART.
On weekends, DART will operate a special van service from Burbank Station every 20 minutes to and from the Round Table Drive to the elections department, the release said.
For assistance planning their routes, DART offers a planning function in its GoPass app and has a Trip Planner online, as well as assistance from customer service, reachable at 214-979-1111. Trip-planning options are also available directly through Google Maps by entering the voting location as the destination and choosing the transit option to get travel directions using DART, the release said.
Those delivering their ballots by mail must show an acceptable form of identification. More information on sending, hand-delivering and tracking ballots by mail can be found here.
The Dallas County Elections Department is not an in-person voting location for Dallas County during early voting or on Election Day. More information on early voting in Dallas County can be found here, and more information on free DART rides for in-person voters can be found here.
